Lodge History
Davis Lodge was organized in the early 1900’s. In the beginning the lodge was named David Lodge Order of Odd Fellows Masons. In February 11928, the brethren met and elected Bro. Josiah Kirkland, 33° as Worshipful Master and named the lodge after Bro. Herman Davis, who was elected Secretary and at that time the youngest member of the lodge. The name changed to Davis Lodge #47 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. The members of Davis Lodge #47 who were; (Bro. C.J. Younger, Bro. William Gladden, Sr., Bro. James Walker, Bro. Ruben Foster, Bro. Lawrence Wright, and Bro. Harry Williams) purchased from the Odd Fellows who members were; (Bro. H.W. Mobley, Bro. Richard Haywood, Bro. Tom Barnes, and Bro. Robert Williams) the property located at 904 South Central Ave. and Michael Gladden Blvd. In Apopka, Florida. The lodge has a rich history; Bro. Josiah Kirkland, 33° was elected the 13th Grand Master of the state of Florida, serving from 1941 to 1942. Bro. Roland A. Baker, Jr., 33° was elected the 23rd and the 26th Grand Master of the state of Florida serving two terms from 1983-1987 and 1993-1997. Bro. Alexander H. Smith, 33° was appointed Asst. Grand Secretary while a member of Davis Lodge and elected Grand Master in 2001. Davis Lodge was one of the few lodges to survive through the Great Depression. Bro. Roland A. Baker, Jr. 33° and Bro.
